Aliu is settling into his new life in Kamloops, working as a Field Service Technician with the team at Everguard Fire and Safety.

“It’s a very good and peaceful environment. I’m loving it,” he said in a recent interview with CBC. “The people here are super nice and always ready to help.”

Aliu is from Cameroon and left home after being targeted for speaking out against the government. He left quickly to protect his family, leaving behind the small fire safety business he had built over years of work.

While living displaced in Nigeria, he interviewed with Everguard, a pan-Canadian fire and life safety sales and service company. He landed a role in Kamloops and relocated with the support of TalentLift under the Economic Mobility Pathways Pilot (EMPP) to his new home city.
